If your small business needs to regularly send out information to clients and prospects you can automate this by using auto responders.  You set this up once, just as you would if you were instruction a secretary or staff member, then use the auto responders to leverage your work over and over agian.

Your web software becomes your automatic secretary.

Some tasks are even more automated as your copy entices your client or prospect to enter the infornmation themselved,

Enter once, set and forget.

Well almost forget.  it is worth checking you analytics so that you can fine tune your wording to become even more effective

Spend a fortune on marketing- or not?

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

Every business needs to work out how best to get clients and you probably want 3 or 4 different media.

As Online Jeanie I work with service businesses wanting to put all or part of their business online.

These people want to automate what they do and “clone” themselves so that they don’t need to keep working so hard at the routine tasks.  It simply does not make sense to work hours for dollars if you can find an easy way to automate at least some of what you do.

So if you are working with people online, how do you find them?

This is one interesting question!  Just because you work online, you don’t need to do all your marketing there as well.

Interestingly I have not met any of my Online Jeanie clients online yet.  They have all come from offline networking.

My original and still my main business is my environmental management system consultancy which I run mainly online.  I meet more of these clients online than I do offline and I keep in touch with them all online.  Often I never meet a client personally even when I work with them for months or even years.  When we do meet – hey that’s fun!

You can choose whether you advertise in magazines, which is expensive and of limited value in my experience, yellow pages – good if you are a plumber or offline home service person, wildly expensive and near useless if you are supplying to other businesses or in the online world; exhibiting at conferences is expensive, collects a lot of contacts for your database if you do it right but barely pays for itself; networking events can be good so long as you have a “keep in touch strategy” but in my opinion nothing beats an online newsletter which is effectively almost free.

I do a weekly environmental newsletter and you can get back copies of this from http://www.enviroaction.com.au/news/index.html and opt in to get your own regular updates.

My experience is that the most effective marketing can be free but it takes time and understanding your clients.   Some of the tools I teach you in OnlineJeanie are how to use social media to build a “tribe” of followers who get to know like and trust you.

Be Visible – What is Your Website Marketing Strategy

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

It does not matter what your business is, if you are in private enterprise you need your website to be visible and effective.  If you run an online business this is even more important.

So when you are deciding what sort of website will work best for you, do you understand the three main types of website?
1.    The brochure site has been a favourite for many years, especially with corporates.  It is what it says, a series of brochures.
2.    A very different strategy uses a landing and sales page and this works well for collecting names in an internet marketing campaign and needs to be connected to something like Google Adwords, an advertisement or even a tradeshow event.
3.    The third type is a blog which has lots of easily updated content and is generally more informal.

I use all three in my business because they all have different places in my internet marketing strategy.  My favourite is the blog because it is so easy to update and done right, it generates lots of internet traffic at no cost beyond a little time.  Once I learned how to set up my blogs to improve the search engine optimisation, my internet traffic doubled within one week and is continuing to increase.

I have two blogs now, and my other blog http://www.envirojean.com has had regular posts for over two years now but was slower to gain traffic until I discovered the secrets of really making it visible.

Increasing internet traffic to your website by using a blog effectively is a very simple way to integrate the internet into your business so that you can compete more effectively.  This is one of the things I teach in OnlineJeanie and “Blogging for Business” is also one of the mini modules that I have just added to help you make your business more visible.  Why don’t you contact me to find out how I can help you use blogs to increase traffic in your business or make sure that you have given me you name and email so that i can send you regular updates and tips.

Yes Money Does Appear On Your Screen

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

Yesterday I picked my five year old grandson Luka up from school and we did what we so often do when he comes here.

We started with a snack of Nutella spread on sixteen little squares cut from 2 slices of bread and an apple juice then we sat down to the serious stuff.

He sat at a my laptop on a small trolley beside my desk and got stuck into rescuing a little girl from a lot of little green aliens by getting some spelling and punctuation right which I find amazing when he is only just learning to read and I sit beside him catching up on my email.   Extra amazing as I am dyslexic and still have problems with spelling.

Suddenly I said “Oh goody! There’s some more money just come in”

Luka told me that you can’t have money coming into the computer so I showed him the merchant transaction.

And that is just the point.  While I was helping him play a computer game, I was collecting  passive income because I put the time and effort into developing the digital products and services that can be delivered over the internet

An internet business gives you the freedom and flexibility to fit in both income and family.

It took me  along time to learn to do what I do now and cost me a large amount of money as I followed dead ends and worked with my clients to sort out what worked best for them as well as me.

Now I have several great online training programs and I run both Online Jeanie and my environmental consultancy online and have been for three years now.  I have developed a simple and effective system for online training that not only works, but I have won awards for.

You will learn my online training system for only 2% of what it cost me to develop and I will give it to you in small bite sized chunks and support you all the way with audio files and teleconference coaching and support.

If you are open to discussing this with me please contact me on the contact form and let’s set up a time to answer your questions or get you started.

You could be making money while you sit and play with your children or grandchildren and have the freedom to enjoy them as they grow.  This is much too special to miss.

Are You Frustrated by all the Search Engine and Keyword Stuff?

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

Do you get frustrated by trying to be discovered on the internet?  Do you struggle with understanding what keywords are useful and how to find this out?  And do you sometimes wonder if it really matters?

Let me explain….

It really does matter because one of the most effective ways to be found on the internet is to increase your search engine rankings and you can easily do this by planning your writing around your message and your keywords.

This is something that took me a while to discover and then I found that this technique alone gave me much faster results than paying for expensive search engine optimization that actually lowered my ranking and lost me my page one rank that I had achieved myself.  I gave one site to a consultant but the sites I worked on myself did much better and in a short time frame.  So I sacked the consultant.

Here is the trick

You decide what you are writing about, then sort out your most effective keywords and write your article,  your blog post  or web page to include those keywords in a way that makes sense.  NEVER just stuff them in please.  Your readers won’t bother and the search engine crawlers don’t like this either.

Surprisingly rapid movement up the search rankings is oneof the things you will be able to achieve with Online Jeanie training so if you wish you know more, why don’y you contact me for straight forward, practical and  non-geeky help

Online Marketing Needs Good Copywriting

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

The hardest skill to learn is to write good copy for your business or for your website website and not sound deadly boring.  Your business must sell to somebody because this is how you get paid but think about what you are really selling.  Are you selling pumps or are you really selling the peace of mind knowing that water is arriving where it is needed, when and in the right quantity?

I have a long way to go with this yet and I am going to join my friend Pete Godfrey at a small, intensely private workshop around Australia on the subject of writing Sales Letters that sell.  Pete really is a brilliant copywriter and teacher.
Plus he is a thoroughly nice guy and fun to be with.

If you’ve ever sweated over an ad, taken ages to complete a simple letter; or you’re a business owner who wants to know how to create sales letters that sell, then you need to take your seat at his upcoming Sales Letter Writing Workshops.

I’ve already bought my ticket and I will be at the Adelaide workshop but there is not a lot of time to make a decision..

Trust I’ll see you there.
Here are the dates
Sydney: Tuesday 28th July – sorry it is too late for this one
Melbourne: Saturday 8th August
Perth: Saturday 15th August
Adelaide: Sunday 16th August
Brisbane Tuesday 18th August
